Science - Volcano eruption

Hello everyone, in Science we are learning about Volcanoes, in this project my team and I researched about the volcanoes we wanted to make. The Volcano that we made is Taal Volcano. Here is the thing we had discovered.

A caldera forms when a volcano erupts and then collapses, this creates a large depression.

Types of rock formations that form around the volcano.

Olivine Basalt is a type of mineral.

Andesite

Plan
Make a border around the volcano and make it look like the volcano looks like it’s submerged in water.
We need to make it slightly taller than the bottle we’re going to use while still making it look like just the very top of the volcano.

Making the base out of cardboard, we will roughly cut out the shape of the volcano.

Reaction: Elephant's Toothpaste
Hydrogen Peroxide and Potassium Permanganate - Turns brown as a chemical reaction between the oxygen and the Potassium Permanganate.

Put warm water in a bottle, then put Potassium Permanganate crystals. Mix.

Add 1-2 drops of detergent to the mixture.

Find an open space.

Pour Hydrogen Peroxide in a measuring cylinder, pour till satisfied with the amount.

Then, quickly pour the Hydrogen Peroxide into the bottle, wait for the reaction.

SEXXXY Paragraph

In the scene 'They don't own me', dialogue is used to create a foreboding atmosphere. Katniss and Peeta are having a conversation about how the upcoming games might affect them. This is demonstrated by the quote "I don' want them to change me", another "If I'm gonna die, I still wanna be me" spoken by Peeta. These show that Peeta has a sense that he is going to have to do things that he doesn't want to do like kill others. This makes the audience feel sorry for Peeta because he is likely going to die, or to kill others to stay alive. The director did this to make us believe that Peeta die early and that being a tribute isn't something to celebrate but a loss of personal autonomy. This work well with colour the dark colours of black and greys which add to the foreboding atmosphere. This aspect can be contrasted to when Peeta joins the Career Pack once in the game because they are cold-hearted killers which is what Peeta didn't want to be.

The Hunter Swoop

Calming blue sky as the cloud formations in the sky.

The large mountain is clouded by fluffy clouds.

The road is formed with a small amount of ice, not a single car can be seen on the road. A long way to the mountains, to see the heavenly view.

The yellow line in the middle of the road separating other sides of the beautiful views.

Parihaka - Music through time

Hello everyone, In social studies, we are learning about Parihaka and about their peace and passive resistance. We also look at other leaders who had done the same thing as Parihaka, they use peace, not violence. We look at how the native people in parihaka impacted and how songs are used during the event.

Small information about Parihaka:

Parihaka is a small village between the tasman sea. After signing the treaty of waitngi, the government starts to take lands from Moāri. People lost their homes and they don't have anywhere to go to. Parihaka was a small village who helped many natives who don't have anywhere to goor lost their homes that time.

Lyrics:

We have to understand the meaning behind the song and answer the questions about the music.

Song: Parihaka
Artist: Tim Finn & Herbs

My friend, My friend, I hate to see you suffer,
Events conspire to bring us to our knees,
My friend, my friend, you've taken this the wrong way,
Rise up, defend yourself, never give in,
Look to the sky, the spirit of Te Whiti,
The endless tide is murmuring his name.

I know Te Whiti will never be defeated,
And even at the darkest hour,
His presence will remain.
I'll sing to you the song of Parihaka.

Te Whiti he used the language of the spirit,
Then stood accused, the madman and his dream,
He saw the train go roaring through the tunnel,
He heard the voice travel on the magic wire,
But he loved the silence of the river,
He watched the dog piss on the cannon's wheel.

I know Te Whiti will never be defeated,
And even at the darkest hour,
His presence will remain.
I'll sing to you the song of Parihaka.
One day you'll know the truth,
They can't pull out the roots,
Come and take me home,
To weep for my lost brother.

They gather still, the clouds of Taranaki,
His children's children wearing the white plume,
So take me for the sins of these sad islands,
The wave still breaks on the rock of Rouhotu.

And when you taste the salt that's on your pudding,
And when you taste the sugar in your soup,
Think of Te Whiti, he'll never be defeated,
Even at the darkest hour,
His presence will remain,
I'll sing for you the song of Parihaka,
Come to Parihaka,
Weep for my lost brother,
The spirit of nonviolence,
Has come to fill the silence, Come to Parihaka.

Critical literacy

Hello everyone, In Wananga we have been working in critical literacy. In critical literacy, we have to write a sum up (summarise) an activity that we have done in class, like 'we have read a book, the author is______this book is about____and I believe this is very interesting because it _____'.

What is the locator flag:
The activity that I'm gonna talk about is the locator flag we made. The locator flag is where a teacher gives you a paper and you have to draw something that represents you. When you are finished with it you have to locate where you are born and put a pin and a string, I can't really explain it properly so I searched for an image that kinda represents what we are doing.

Title: Locator flag
We made this so people could get to know our class and also to know more about our classmates.
Text type: Art for the world flag
Creator: Alliah (me)

Who benefits from this?
This benefits anyone because it's about getting to know our class more/ students in our class. This also helps the teacher to know us more and this also helps people who are interested in you.

Heating Zinc Oxide

Hello everyone, today in science we are experimenting on Zinc Oxide. We have to heat up Zinc Oxide and observe what happened next.

Aim: What change happens when we heat Zinc Oxide?

Equipment: Bunsen burner, Heat mat, Tripod, Safety glasses, Crucible Holder and Zinc Oxide

Results: When it was heating up it was turning yellow and when we turn it off it turns back to white.

Discussion: When heated, the electrons in Zinc move to other levels, making it change colours.

Esol - Halloween Project

Hello everyone, this week we are working on our presentation about the scary myth about our own culture. I had a lot of fun making the short film because my teammates Janel and Shiela made it fun while filming. It was a bit stressful to edit because I don't really know what I would put fo the caption. If we had more time editing it, I would make some changes to the voice-over because it didn't really explain about the lady in white. Here is the video I made with my teammates and I hope you like it.

So if you don't really understand the story I will just explain it to you. The story is mainly about the lady in white, the lady in white usually seen at night and in the morning. The lady in white usually is seen if they need your help or there is something about you that they hate or they are part of your family. You can find a lady in white in rural places or tragedies places. That is all the information I have about The lady in white I hope you like the video and have a nice day.

Bag making - Textiles

Hello everyone, this textile we have been working on the bag we are making. I haven't started sewing my bag yet but sooner I will, I only have cut the stakeholder one bag and I'm still working on what would stakeholder would have.

Stakeholder 2 should have looked like this, but we don't have any materials that are pink and blue.

Stakeholder 1 should look like this and I don't have to change anything, I just have to sew it and put the details on it.

Gymnastics - P.E

Hello everyone, this P.E we are doing gymnastics, We learnt how to cartwheel, bear roll, the beam and the trampoline. We take photos of us doing the activities in gymnastics. We got better doing the trampoline and at the mat where you do front roll cartwheel and stuff. I have to practise more on the beam because I'm a bit scared of hight. Here are the pictures and videos we took.

Filtration Experiment

Hello everyone, Today we are doing a filter experiment. We have a filter paper to filter the chemical we are experimenting, and no we can't drink it because we don't know if it's clean. At first, we have to put the blue transparent liquid and the name is copper sulfate. We add the transparent chemical which is sodium carbonate. when we stirred it looks like a blue opaque liquid.

Aim: To Separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a liquid during a chemical reaction).

Hypothesis: what do you think will happen...

I think that the dirty things to the chemical will stay at the filter paper and the bottom will be clear.

Method:

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

Observations and Discussion: what you saw happen and why do you think it happened...
The liquid turns to transparent and there are some left blue thing left at the top of the filter paper.

Equipment:

Sodium carbonate

Copper sulfate

Conical flask

Stirring Rod

200mL Beaker

Funnel

Filter paper

Adrift

Adrift

Hi my name is Annie and one day I was up in the beautiful blue sky in my house riding on a big, enormous whale. I’m at home doing nothing, looking through my window and just talking to myself.

While I was looking through my window, I saw a bird flying up in the sky and I wish I could fly to I said to myself. Then when I’m looking outside looking at the bird, it gave me a shock when it passed my window. The bird said “come with me” and I said don’t go,  just wait i’m coming. So I followed the bird and opened my door.

I look around and found the bird and I saw a house and any minutes I came at the tree and I sit down to the tree and waiting, then I saw a boy coming for me so I hide behind at the tree. He slept down  so I help him

Then I said to the boy “any second’s the thunder will come” and the boy look at his floating house and flick his goggles and he flew away and I said don’t go. Then I’m sad again so I came at my house then I was looking at my door  outside then I  look at the bird and the bird fell the rope for me and I run to get the rope I smiling at the boy and Then I just accidentally fell the rope and I run faster than I could just to get the rope.

Then when I catching the rope I fell down then I get the rope and I look at the tree and I plan to tie the rope at tree then my plan works and the boy was so happy because I help him and he he smile at me and we became friends.

The End
