Ōtautahi |Social studies

Hello everyone, in Social studies we are learning more about Christchurch and other places or landmarks in Christchurch. I have learned new things in New Zealand and I also know more about it. We made a Prezi about this and I also hope you like it.

Reflection: It's a bit hard on putting information since most of the information is a bit hard to understand. It's also hard to put pictures and clips to the Prezi. Making the Prezi was very hard since there are things I haven't explored.

-Analysing the film plot and learning how to identify the effect and key points of the film.
How does this work show my learning?
- It explained what I have understood in the film and also where am I in my learning.
What am I wondering as a result of this learning?

Brainstorm
The Reaping Scene
-Katniss volunteer as tribute when her sister is chosen.

- Katniss is a symbol of hope for a district victor.
- Katniss is a symbol of rebellion because she steps in for her sister (A weaker character) when she is reaped.

Rich vs Poor   Symbol - Effie Trinket - Extreme make-up, wig, hat, overly colourful and flashy outfit, paper accent,

Camera Techniques | English 2021

Hello everyone, in English we are looking at camera techniques. We have to search for different camera techniques and put some definitions of the camera technique.

What am I learning?
I'm learning the camera techniques that are used for filming.

How does this work show my learning?
It shows the work that I have done and how much I learned about camera techniques.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning?
I am wondering how come some of the camera angles/shots/focus has the same meaning and how can you tell the difference from all of them.

What did Hitler says about Jews? | Social studies

Hello everyone, on social studies, we are looking at why Hitler hates Jews or how Hitler viewed the Jews. We look at the quotes that Hitler wrote and what does he mean.

"The Jews were responsible for bringing negroes into the Rhineland with the ultimate idea of bastarding (lowering the quality of) the white race which they hate and thus lowering its cultural and political level so the Jew might dominate"

The quote is about Hitler blaming the Jews for how they ruined the white race and lowering their culture. Hitler is saying that Jews are evil and should not let them dominate their country because Hitler said that Jew doesn't like white people and they want to lower their race. Hitler thinks that if Jews take over they want their country to weaken.

DNA Extraction | Science

Aim: To extract DNA from kiwi fruit

Equipment:
- Kiwi fruit
- knife (to cut the kiwi fruit)
- Sand
- Ethanol
- Beakers
- Water
- Heat Mat
- Bunsen Burner
- Test tube
- Dishwashing liquid
- Sandwich bag
- Tripod
- Cloth
- Spatula
- Gauze Mat
- Glass rod
Method:
  1. Squish kiwi fruit with sand with water and pour through the cloth to collect the juice in the beaker.
  2. Use the beaker to warm the water, pour juice into the test tube with 2 drops of dishwashing liquid and rest in warm water.
  3. Add Ethanol, watch the DNA separate and collect with a spatula.
Result:

Discussion: The Dishwashing liquid separate the walls of the DNA cells. When we added the ethanol it separated the DNA layer from the kiwi fruit and it floated at the top of the tube.

The Great Depression 1929

Hello everyone, in Social studies we are learning about The holocaust.

Germany was hit the hardest during the depression because of how much loan they owe. They were told to pay billions of dollars in reparations to the allies. Many people lost their jobs and their economy fell.

Germany has to accept full responsibility for starting world war 1 and pay for the debt they own or allied for the war they lost. They have to agree to any terms and the significant ones were the reparations, reduction in Germany military and ownership. Their army was reduced to 100 thousand. They have to get rid of a lot of their submarines, military aircraft and artillery. The treaty was one of the reasons that Hitler and the Nazi power got into power to get rid of the Chains of Versailles. This is what Germany has to accept and agree on.

In 1929 - 33 New Zealand was also affected by the depression when export prices began to plummet and fall down to 45%. As an arguited county this has a huge impact.

Stop motion - Convection

Hello everyone, this science we are learning about matter. We have to make a stop motion that explain the topic we picked. We have to pick one of the energy which is expanding, contract, convection and conduction. We picked convection, and we have to explain how does convection works. I hope this makes sense and I hope you like it.

( convection - When heat passes through a material )

Particle Theory and Diffusion

Hello everyone, today we are learning about particle theory and diffusion. Particle theory and diffusion is the movement of a area of high and low concentration. We first learn about matter (solid liquid and gas), matter should have a mass and a has a volume. We are going to experiment to diffuse hot water and cold water.

Particle theory: is a particle that changes properties in different states of matter.
  • all matter is made up of particles
  • all particles is a pure substances are the same
  • There is space between all particles
  • particles are always moving
  • there are attractive forces between particles
  • temperature affects the speed at which particles move

Aim: We are investigating the effect of the temperature on rate of diffusion.
Hypothesis: I think that hot water will diffuse faster than the cold water, because heat gives more energy to spread out more than cold.

Method:
  1. put warm water and cold water into the same cylinder size and width.
  2. Get some KMn04 (Potassium Permanganate)
  3. Put the KMn04 (Potassium Permanganate) in the water which is the warm and the cold water and they should have the same amount.
Conclusion:
In the end the KMn04 (Potassium Permanganate) spread faster at warm water, Its because the warm water have more energy. This also because the particle is moving fast.

Why are there no more plastic bags? - Textiles

Hello everyone, this textiles we are searching what and why there is no more single use and why is there no more plastic. It's because plastics is light weighted which fly around and get stuck to things like fences. This is also a problem for the sea animals and of course land animals too, they might eat this and die. Plastic contains some micro-plastics its a type of plastic fragment. Micro-plastics is a very small piece of plastic and this can pollute the environment. Animals could eat it or we could inhale it because its a very small piece of plastic. Plastic is also very hard to decompose its because this last more than a year. We can stop this buy using reusable bag and things that are reusable so that we can't hurt our environment. This is climate change affected because this can kill animals that we eat and also poison us.

Captain Cook and learning about Prior Knowledge.

Hey guys, so before I tell what you on what work we are doing about captain cook, however, I have to show you first what kind of work we are working on right now with the story of Captain Cook. So we have to connect the story about "Making Connection to Prior Knowlege" so prior knowledge has 3 different kinds. 1st there is text to self, this is when you read a book about something and this reminds you of something like happened to you. For example: " Jenna's dog ripped her dress now she can't go to the ball, this part reminds me of my ripped dress that broke because of the wooden chair"

The 2nd one is text to world, where you connect two things and it's like you compared them to each other, for example: " This boy wants to be a president when he grows up and build a big wall, this part makes me think of Donald Trump who wants to build his own big wall"

3rd is text to text, this means you have to compare a story to what you are reading. For example: "This book reminds me of Harry Potter because this book has lots of magical things everywhere in the story and this reminds me of it"
So now since I finished the prior knowledge we are going back at the story of Captain Cook.
First when we didn't read the story of captain cook we have to know what we know about him, so my teacher let us go to our reading groups and write down what we already know about captain cook, we shared lots of ideas and we  put it at the planning sheet so we won't forget what we wrote down. after that, we have to read our book and write down some new things what we know about Captain Cook. The activity we did was really fun because we have to learn new thing about what we still don't know and now I learned a lot.
