Hurumanu 3 - Chaos - Black death

 Hello everyone, this chemical and chaos we are learning about The Black death, but right now we are learning about Fleas and rats. We are asked to make a Basic paragraph about the subject of black death, we have to get a topic about it. Here is the paragraph I made about it.

Basic Body Paragraph. 

Fleas and Rats. The fleas and rats were the problems to have the pandemic about the black death, it

causes a lot of problems around the city that had been hit by the black death. The black death started in

China and pass it through the ships trading routes westward to the Mediterranean. It then reached Rome,

the centre of an elaborate web of trading routes, Florence, Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon and London.


The fleas were very dangerous at that time because the fleas pass the bacteria from the rat to a human. Rats
were a pest and they would always eat human foods. Rats would always eat something they think it’s edible.
Rats go to places that they shouldn’t and that’s how the fleas go to rats and fleas would jump to another rat
or person to get rid of the blood and get another blood from someone or something.

Evaporation Experiment

Hello everyone today we are doing evaporation while doing the experiment we are looking at the changes in the water and also see the evaporating basin. The experiment was fun because we used bunsen burner, I had to lit a fire by a lighter. The water was condensing, steaming, boiling and evaporating. At the bottom are the aim, hypothesis and the equipment used. 


Separating a Mixture using Evaporation:


Aim: why you are doing the experiment

To separate a solution into a solvent and solute using evaporation.

Hypothesis: what you think will happen, and why….

I think it will heat up and the copper sulfate will leave some crystal at the sides.

Equipment: Copper sulfate solution, 250mL Beaker, heatproof mat, evaporating basin, element. 

Method: 

  1. Set up element

  2. Add 100mL of hot water to the beaker and place on the element.

  3. Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full.

  4. Carefully, place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker. 

  5. Turn on the element to 3

  6. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming. 

  7. Turn off the element- be careful not to touch, as it will be hot for a long time.


Observations: What did you see, hear etc when doing the experiment.

The boiling was loud so you could hear the boil of the water and also you can hear the gas.

Conclusion: Was your hypothesis correct?

yes, the crystal stayed and it has some a little bit of kinda glitter.

Discussion: What happened and why… using your scientific keywords (Evaporating, Solvent, solute, solution, mixture, heat, boil) The water started boiling because of the heat and while it was boiling the steam started coming out of the beaker. When it

Evaluation: Did you enjoy the experiment? Why? What would you do differently next time? 

I enjoyed it because I'm learning something new and I had fun with my group but some people in our group sometimes don't really do anything so I would like to change it.

Dilution

Hello everybody, this chemistry we are experimenting with Serial Dilution. The picture below is the aim and the instruction about our experiment.

The most dilute one is the last on because it has been passed and passed until the end and makes it weaker or dilutes more.
  • How do you know it's more Dilute and Concentrated? Explain?
I know this because of how transparent or less colour they have meant that it's more diluted. The stronger the colour is mean its more concentrated

Esol - Halloween Project

 Hello everyone, this week we are working on our presentation about the scary myth about our own culture. I had a lot of fun making the short film because my teammates Janel and Shiela made it fun while filming. It was a bit stressful to edit because I don't really know what I would put fo the caption. If we had more time editing it, I would make some changes to the voice-over because it didn't really explain about the lady in white. So if you don't really understand the story I will just explain it to you. The story is mainly about the lady in white, the lady in white usually seen at night and in the morning. The lady in white usually is seen if they need your help or there is something about you that they hate or they are part of your family. Bag making - Textiles

 Hello everyone, this textile we have been working on the bag we are making. I haven't started sewing my bag yet but sooner I will, I only have cut the stakeholder one bag and I'm still working on what would stakeholder would have. 

Stakeholder 2 should have looked like this, but we don't have any materials that are pink and blue.

Gymnastics - P.E

Hello everyone, this P.E we are doing gymnastics, We learnt how to cartwheel, bear roll, the beam and the trampoline. We take photos of us doing the activities in gymnastics. We got better doing the trampoline and at the mat where you do front roll cartwheel and stuff. I have to practise more on the beam because I'm a bit scared of hight. Filtration Experiment

Hello everyone, Today we are doing a filter experiment. We have a filter paper to filter the chemical we are experimenting, and no we can't drink it because we don't know if it's clean. At first, we have to put the blue transparent liquid and the name is copper sulfate. We add the transparent chemical which is sodium carbonate. when we stirred it looks like a blue opaque liquid.

 Aim: To Separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a liquid during a chemical reaction).

Hypothesis: what do you think will happen...

I think that the dirty things to the chemical will stay at the filter paper and the bottom will be clear.

Method: 

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate. 

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask. 

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel. 

6. Observe what happened.


Observations and Discussion: what you saw happen and why do you think it happened...
The liquid turns to transparent and there are some left blue thing left at the top of the filter paper.

Hurumanu 3 - Chemistry Mixing and dissolving

 Hello everybody, so today we are learning about Mixing and dissolving, we have to find how who move faster in what temperature. 

What are the ideas from today? The idea for today is to mix and dissolve or to know what temperature to dissolve the sugar first. 

What factors effect dissolving?

Experiment: Aim, method, result

Aim: Rate of dissolving depending on temperature and stirring. 

Method: In this experiment, we have to have 2 beakers one is small and one is big. We also need a spatula to put the sugar in the water and also for mixing. The first one we did was to put the big beaker cold water and this has to be in 50ml, We have to stir it, We also have to time it the same as we put the sugar and stop when the sugar has dissolved. The second one is the same thing but we have to put hot water, it also has to have the same water as the first one and the amount of sugar we put. The third one is the first one but we can't stir it. The fourth one is the same as the second one but we also don't need to stir it.

Total and average time: Coldwater + mixed= (total) 490sec (average) 70sec |  Hot water + mixed=(total)  213sec (average) 27sec | Coldwater + No stirring=(total) 622sec (average) 24.4sec |  Hot water + No stirring= (total) 590sec (average) 98sec

Why the result happened? 

The hot water gives more energy to the particle and moves around more and the cold water make it slower and that's why the cold water is taking a long time to dissolve.

Business & Enterprise

 Hello everyone, so this past week we have been planning business & enterprise, finally its finish. It's not like I didn't enjoy it but I did enjoy it, it was really fun because you see the groups that work really hard on their products. I enjoy it's because my team work really hard to sell our product and also work on our products.  


This picture was not our product I was included because I was kinda advertising and also buying one of their product. I was laughing because I was making a joke about the pillow I was holding.

The first week of business and enterprise was about what are we gonna sell and who will be in our group, at first it was hard to decide what are we gonna sell and also we already made a group it was Lyan, Jolly Rose, Aili and I. 

The second week of business and enterprise is where we know our products and we have to write a business letter to Mr Scott so he can allow us to make our product and also buy our product. There is also  some people come to school who is  a expert of doing business. 

The third week was where we had planned all and do the maths for our financial and also finishing our poster and confiming the letter to Mr Scott.

The fourth week is where we finishing planning the things and also doing our product which is coffee jelly and also leche flan. 

We sell alot and it was also fun to market and I really enjoy, I hopefully we could do this next year and it would be fun to see people buying other peoples product. I hope you guys have nice day! and stay safe.

Particle Theory and Diffusion

Hello everyone, today we are learning about particle theory and diffusion. Particle theory and diffusion is the movement of a area of high and low concentration. We first learn about matter (solid liquid and gas), matter should have a mass and a has a volume. We are going to experiment to diffuse hot water and cold water. 

Particle theory: is a particle that changes properties in different states of matter. 
  • all matter is made up of particles 
  • all particles is a pure substances are the same 
  • There is space between all particles 
  • particles are always moving 
  • there are attractive forces between particles 
  • temperature affects the speed at which particles move 
 
Aim: We are investigating the effect of the temperature on rate of diffusion. 
Hypothesis: I think that hot water will diffuse faster than the cold water, because heat gives more energy to spread out more than cold.           

Method:
  1. put warm water and cold water into the same cylinder size and width.
  2. Get some KMn04 (Potassium Permanganate)
  3. Put the KMn04 (Potassium Permanganate) in the water which is the warm and the cold water and they should have the same amount.
Conclusion:
In the end the KMn04 (Potassium Permanganate) spread faster at warm water, Its because the warm water have more energy. This also because the particle is moving fast. 

Why are there no more plastic bags? - Textiles

Hello everyone, this textiles we are searching what and why there is no more single use and why is there no more plastic. It's because plastics is light weighted which fly around and get stuck to things like fences. This is also a problem for the sea animals and of course land animals too, they might eat this and die. Plastic contains some micro-plastics its a type of plastic fragment. Micro-plastics is a very small piece of plastic and this can pollute the environment. Animals could eat it or we could inhale it because its a very small piece of plastic. Plastic is also very hard to decompose its because this last more than a year. We can stop this buy using reusable bag and things that are reusable so that we can't hurt our environment. This is climate change affected because this can kill animals that we eat and also poison us.

Weekly Reflection 6

Hello to everyone and this weekly reflection I´m gonna tell you when I felt accomplishment this week. This week I felt accomplished when I´m getting better at my realism which is drawing realistic and when I got 100% at my science test about food and digestion. I was really happy when I got 100% on my test because it was my first and I will work harder to get 100% more. I´m really proud of myself because I´m giving myself challenges that I don´t know how to work out and I´m proud that I´m doing great finishing my goals. Film study - Self direct film - The ball in the bush..

 Hello everyone this film study we have to do a short film. It has to be at least 30 seconds straight. We had to decide what film we are making and we decided to make a horror one and it was a ball went into the bush and then something happened. It was fun making it because behind the scene it was really funny because my teammate made it fun by making jokes and finished it fast so we can do the editing which is fun too. I learned how to do new film techniques and angles. Some angles we include was the point of view, low angle, medium-long shot, close up and over the shoulder. something I found challenging was to go in the bush because it was very branchy and there might be a bug in the bush. We could change the film if we had a chance, we could make it into a funny one.   




Sustainability Project

 Hello to everyone, so this sustainability we had to make our own game. Our game is based about cops and robbers but we have to make it a bit hard. The name of our game is Seed, planters and polluters you can read the information under my introduction. We changed a bit because we did a bit harder than what we planned now. The topic is about pollution and this game tells us that to plant and take care of our environment. My teammate did a great job helping especially Lyan, she did some of the rules of the game and give information about the game. Aili did great giving ideas about the game and correcting our grammar. There are three teams in this game - The Planters, Seedlings and the Polluters.


3 - 4 Planters

2 - 3 Polluters

The rest of the remaining of the class are seedlings 


Main Objective: Catch all the seedlings and turn them into whatever role has the most seedlings. 


How to start the game

The seedlings are given time to hide at the beginning of the game. After a minute or so the planters are released, they have to find the seedlings. A few seconds after the planters are released, the polluters will be released, and they have to find the seedlings. 


  • Note: YOU´RE NOT ALLOWED TO GO TO THE OTHER TEAM’S JAIL/GARDEN AND GET THE SEEDLINGS, ONLY THE SEEDLINGS ARE ALLOWED TO GET THEM!)  DON'T PRETEND TO BE ONE OF THE SEEDLINGS. PLEASE DO NOT CHEAT!  


Rules: 

  • The taggers ( planters and polluters ) are not allowed to just barge in a prison and steal the seedlings 

  • No cheating

  • The seedlings are the only ones allowed to get/tag other seedlings from jail.


~Roles~


  • Seedlings: Their main objective is to hide from both the planters and the polluters. If a planter tags them they are then taken to the planters prison where a planter will be stationed too. A seedling can get out of their prison/garden when another seedling has tagged them. The same happens with the polluter. Except when the seedlings are there for more than 3 minutes they become a polluter.


  • Planters: Their main objective is to catch as many seedlings as they can. 1 of them has to guard the jail, and they have to be at least 2 metres away from the prison. The other has to try and tag all of the seedlings and bring them to their garden.


  • Polluters: The main polluters objective is to catch all of the seedlings and turn them into polluters.  The polluters also have a prison of their own where a guard will be stationed, and they have to be at least 2 metres away from the prison.

The prison for the planters is called a garden because a planter is a positive role so their prison should be positive too. In their garden, one planter can be stationed in front of the garden but they have to be at least 2 metres away from the garden. If they tag a seedling and the seedling is still in their 


The prison for the polluters is called a prison because a polluter is a negative role. When a seedling is captured and put into the prison there is a high chance that they can turn into a polluter. If they are still in prison for 3 minutes then they are now polluters and will help them capture other seedlings. The polluter can also have a guard stand by the prison, but they have to be at least 2 metres away from it.


When a seedling is captured in any of these prisons, they can get the captured seedling back. To do that they need to risk their lives and try to get into each tagger's prisons and tag the seedling so they could get out.

Research of Acid rain - Sustainability

This sustainability we have been writing our essay about sustainability, the research I´ve been researching is about acid rain. The essay should have an introduction, 3 paragraph and a conclusion. First I search what are the causes, effect and how can we solve it. We have to put our researches at a slide where we can give information or if this information is true. Here is the slide where I put my research.

                      

The information I wrote might be useless at least it was in good use before. The essay that I wrote might not make any sense by at least I tried. here is the finished result of my essay.

Acid rain?
What is acid rain and why is this dangerous for humans and animals?. This is dangerous because this can kill the animals we eat and some vegetables we eat. 

What is acid rain why this can damage our environment?
Acid rain can kill people, animals and plant. Acid rain comes from human activity mostly about fossil fuels. When we burn fossil fuels Nitric and Sulfuric acid are released into the atmosphere. These gases react with water, oxygen and other substances to form the 2 acids which are Nitric and Sulfuric acid. Winds can spread the acidic compound of acid rain and this can spread over a hundred mile. Eruption volcanoes and rotting vegetation can release some chemical into the air and this can also cause acid rain. If acid rain reaches the earth this flows across the surface and runoff water enters the water system and sinks down into the soil. Acid rain weakened the trees by dissolving the nutrients inside the soil before plants can use them.  

What is the effect of this?
This happens when we make a lot of fossil fuels. Acid rain Contained 2 acid which is Nitric and Sulfuric Acid. This can kill or plants by the rain if the cloud absorbs fossil fuels this can turn into acid rain, animals can eat the plants and can get sick. Humans can inhale Nitric and Sulfuric acid which can give you a heart attack, health problem, eye irritation and people who have bad lung or has asthma. Acid damage physical structure like buildings and cars. Dead trees or dying trees are common sights of areas affected by acid rain. Acid rain leach aluminium from the soil and this can be harmful to plants and animals too. Acid rain also takes away the nutrients and minerals from the soil. 

How can we stop this?
We can stop this by reducing fossil fuels by using public transport, using solar power. We can use renewable energy to stop creating fossil fuels. We can tell other people how this can damage our earth, we can make them understand what, how changes our air and can cause air pollution sources that can cause problems. We can also stop this by testing lakes/ocean, air, temperature and more. This can help us know what is happening and this can help us know if we are in a bad situation. If we didn´t stop this can risk all of our life especially animals and plants. You can also help by turning off your devices that you are not using or other appliances that you are not using.

Conclusion
In conclusion, we can stop acid rain by using renewable energy, such as solar power, wind power and wave energy so that we cannot damage more of our environment and people who have disabilities such as asthma and lung problems  


Experiments - Hurumanu 2 Science

Hello guys and girls, we have been doing an experiment about proteins, simple sugar and complex sugar. Before we do our experiment we have to be in a group, I´m with Lyan, Emily, Lucy and Milan. We have to test 6 different things which are sugar, apple, potato, milk, egg and bread. We used different methods to test different food.
     
Method
We put the 6 different food at the test tube to put our chemical in. The chemicals were Iodine, Benedict, sodium hydroxide, copper sulfate (we didn´t add them all together, different experiment different tube for each of it).

Our group thought that bread, potato, milk and egg are Complex sugar but the result was that the bread and potato was the only complex sugar. We thought that the simple sugar was apple and sugar but the only simple sugar was the apple. we thought that the proteins were egg and milk and we got them right.

Our first experiment was Complex sugar we put drops of iodine in our test tube where our different types of small pieces of a different kind of food that we are testing. If this is a complex sugar this turn into blue or black. The simple sugar experiment was to put 2ml of Benedict solution and boil it, this should turn to orange and green this means that this is a simple sugar. we should know that if its a protein this turn into purple, we did this by adding sodium hydroxide and copper sulfate.   

Film study - Challenge Chart

This film study we have to pick between Challenge chart or resume, I picked the Challenge chart because it's easier to do. I think they both are easy but I think the challenge chart is easier than the resume.
                    

What am I learning? - I´m learning to get to know Coraline and Other mothers identity and why are they different from each other.

How does this work show my learning - this shows my learning that I have given information about Coraline and the other mother identities and kind of their weakness.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning? - I´m wondering if I could do better writing this and if this makes any sense.

Today we have to write our reflection again and (This week I felt affirmed in my unique identity when) I have to answer the question and I wrote this - When I finally told off my siblings like I´m the older kid. Even though I´m not the older kid in our family, my siblings doesn´t really listen to me but this time they have listen to me! Learning some new phrases!

This wellbeing time Aili, Lyan and I have been learning new languages like Thai, Malay, Korean and Chinese, The first one we learned was Korean which is something I have been learning now for a month now, the phrase I taught to Lyan and Aili was 감사합니다 ( kam sa hab ni da) means Thank you in Korean. Aili taught us Chinese which was 謝謝 (Xièxiè) which is thank you in Chinese. We search Thai and Malay because we haven´t learned any of them yet. In Thai, we learned สวัสดี (Swadi) which means hello in Thai and for Malay we learned Selamat Jalan which means Goodbye in Malay. That's all that we learned hopefully I can learn more.
